You're actually in a uniquely fantastic position to conduct an informational interview. Since you're already in the company (albeit in a temp capacity) you've had the chance to see first-hand what goes on and how things work. I'd prep by listing out the things you like about the company itself, as well as some examples of specific positions that you might want to grow into - either in the short or long term. Then when you speak with the manager you'll be able to come across like you know what you're talking about and know where you want to go professionally. These are very good traits to bring into that first meeting. Good luck!

I leave a response when I especially enjoy a post on a blog
or I have something to contribute to the conversation.
Usually it is triggered by the sincerness displayed in the post I looked at.
And on this post Your Elevator Pitch – It Doesn’t Have
to Suck « HR Dave. I was actually excited enough
to post a thought I do have some questions for you if you do not mind.

Could it be simply me or do a few of these remarks come across as if they are written by brain dead
people? And, if you are posting at additional
online sites, I would like to keep up with everything new you have to post.
Could you list every one of your community pages like your linkedin
profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?

Well, I'm a temp at a company and I am interested in full-time opportunities with this firm. I'm thinking about meeting the hiring manager just for some 'advice' and review my experiences and resume, is there anything other that what you've mentioned in the article that I should talk him about?

Dear Greg H, I think you are right on several accounts. I am actually the person who posted this original question... r.e. Thank you notes. It is possible there is more going on then I am made aware of, and thus I have other friends in the company "looking into" the details of the hiring decisions. Seems the hire-ups are not really sure what/who they are looking for. So, I figure sending a follow up, note in a very respectful and pleasant tone, offering more information on the assets I hold - that were not specifically mentioned in the interview, could help them see more of what I can offer. Thus realizing more of my full potential. Since the situation is "friendly," I believe it can't hurt my chances, only increase them. If it still doesn't happen, nothing lost. Thank you HR Dave.
